Prior Learning Assessment Policy

Policy #12: Prior Learning Assessment

12.1 Purpose

The Prior Learning Assessment is a process to determine if prior education or experience is equivalent to part of the Art Psychotherapy Diploma program. Students who wish to submit a request for a Prior Learning Assessment must have completed their prior learning at a recognized and accredited art therapy institution. Any questions or requests for a Prior Learning Assessment should be sent to the Managing Director of Academic Services ([email protected]).

12.2 Exceptions

Prior learning must not be assessed as equivalent to more than 50% of the hours of instruction of the Art Psychotherapy Diploma program unless the student’s previous institution ceases to hold a certificate before the student was able to complete their approved program, and CiiAT has been appointed by the Private Training Institution Branch registrar to provide a comparable program.

12.3 Transfer Students

A potential transfer student from a similarly recognized art therapy institution must complete an application, including transcripts, certificates, portfolio and interview. In addition to the standard application, the potential transfer student will provide a syllabi listing the art therapy courses they have completed. This syllabi will be used to assess the acceptable transfer credits.
