Policy #45: Course Retake Policy
45.1 Purpose
At CiiAT, we are committed to supporting students in meeting the academic and clinical requirements necessary for their success. To ensure high standards in our program, the following policy outlines the process and requirements for retaking courses in part or full due to a failing grade or incomplete work within the allocated time.
45.2 118 – Clinical Placement Course Retake Policy
- Extension for Incomplete Students with 200+ DCCH:
- Students enrolled in Clinical 118 who do not complete the course requirements but have earned a minimum of 200 Direct Client Contact Hours (DCCH) are eligible to request an extended deadline of 3 months.
- Students must pay a fee of $750 to retake a portion of the course during the extended period.
- Retaking the Full Course for Students with Fewer than 200 DCCH:
- Students with fewer than 200 DCCH or those who have been enrolled in Clinical 118 for the maximum duration (12 months for full-time students and 18 months for part-time students) will be required to retake the entire course.
- The full course fee of $4,100 will apply.
- DCCH previously earned in the course may be transferred to the retake at the discretion of the Clinical Director.
45.3 Retake Policy for All Other Courses
- Grade Requirement:
- A minimum grade of 70% (B-) is required to pass all courses.
Students who fail to meet this requirement must retake the course.

- Course Retake Fee:
- The cost to retake any course is $1470.
- Impact on Graduation and Other Courses:
- Retaking any course will delay graduation.
- In some cases, students may be required to pause all other courses until the retaken course is successfully completed.
- Students may also be placed on clinical and academic probation while retaking a course.
45.4 Additional Information about Course Retake
All requests for course retakes or extensions must be submitted to and approved by the Clinical and Academic Directors.
Retake policies are in place to ensure students achieve the required competencies for professional practice in art psychotherapy.
