Vera Heller, Ph.D., ATR

Vera Heller, Ph.D., ATR, S.W., is a full time professor in Art Therapy at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT), an art therapist, and a licensed social worker/ psychotherapist. She worked in mental health and maintained a private practice for over 20 years. Throughout her career she initiated various multimodal expressive therapies with youth and immigrants, and women’s groups both in Quebec and in Latin America. In parallel to her teaching and clinical work, Vera Heller has been a practicing fine artist since 1983. She participated in various group exhibitions, both in Quebec and abroad, and received creation grants from Quebec and Canada Councils of Art. Her multidisciplinary background brought her to develop a view of art as an interactive and democratic discipline, at once intimate and social, spontaneous and reflexive. She developed a particular research interest in exploring the contribution of artistic creation to healing through depth psychology.
