Michelle Winkel, MA, MFT, ATR, REAT Clinical Director

Michelle Winkel is an art therapist, trained facilitator, and supervisor, with twenty years of experience working directly with groups, families, and individuals. Michelle is the Clinical Director for the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy (CiiAT).

Michelle has taught Art Therapy at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, IPATT in Bangkok, BCSAT in British Columbia, and has served as the Executive Director of the B.C. School of Art Therapy. Since 1999, Michelle has used art therapy with businesses and organizations in group settings. In these engagements, she incorporates her training and her skills as an artist as she facilitates group processes. As a supervisor at a local school agency in California for five years, she co-designed and implemented a reflective practice program that worked with the Child Protective Agency and other agencies in the area to improve supervision, performance, and morale of front-line staff.

Michelle’s credentials include a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California and Registered Art Therapist in North America as well as Registered Canadian Art Therapist. Michelle received a Master’s Degree in Clinical Art Therapy from Loyola Marymount University, California. Michelle also held a fellowship in Infant-Parent Mental Health from Harvard Children’s Hospital from 2004-2005. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Art Therapy Association. She makes art and tries to connect with other artists as much as possible.
