Description

Art experiences can have significant value for people with autism and other pervasive developmental disorders. Many people with autism have a remarkable ability to think visually in pictures. Using pictures, they can process memories and express ideas through drawing and other artistic media. Art becomes a way to express and communicate with very little or no verbal interaction. Working this way helps clients imagine and think symbolically, recognize and respond to facial expressions, manage sensory issues, and even improve their fine-motor skills.

  1. Understanding Autism Spectrum Disorder
  2. Developing an interactive art template for supporting the ASD client
  3. Incorporating therapeutic arts into Greenspan’s floor time model to focus on imaginative play, creativity and building initiative.
