Attachment Informed Art Therapy Certification (Aic)
Attachment theory provides a useful framework to inform all therapeutic practice. Attachment Informed Art Therapy Certification program is a professional development course that provides a comprehensive overview of an attachment-informed art therapy model with a focus on dyadic work with children and their caregivers as well as other parts of the life cycle.
This program does not require approval by Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training.

Attachment Informed Art Therapy Certification is open to all students and is ideal for art therapists, community-based artists, psychologists and anyone working in the human services field. No art experience required, although interest in the creative process is preferred.

BIPOC Attachment Informed Certificate Scholarship:
Up to 25% reduction in tuition for Attachment Informed Certificate
The Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy is offering a scholarship to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) students in an effort to provide greater accessibility to our programs. We want to recognize the marginalization that these communities face when entering the professional and academic sectors and to support bringing more BIPOC voices into the field of art therapy. Applications are being accepted for both January and May cohorts.
Application Requirements:
- A 1000 word essay written in APA format discussing how art and the art making process has impacted the student’s healing journey.

- Include essay and notice of intention to apply for scholarship in application
All applications for the scholarship will be reviewed and in circumstances where more than one applicant has shown potential, CiiAT may decide to split the scholarship accordingly.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
Scholarships to CiiAT programs cannot be combined. One per student in an effort to allow multiple students to benefit.
CiiAT reserves the right to award scholarships to multiple applicants if the organization sees fit.

Program Details
You will learn and practice techniques for working directly with clients. Training includes enhancing your awareness of your own and your clients’ attachment experiences. Interventions for symptoms such as feeding, sleeping and behaviour challenges in infants and young children will be explored through experiential, arts-based means. There will be a focus on dyadic work at all parts of the life cycle.
In this course, you will explore:
- the art therapy process as a vehicle for changing internal working models
- creating a secure base in the therapeutic relationship with clients
- formulating and processing relationship experiences
- transference and counter-transference
- working with different attachment styles or patterns, including insecure and conflicted
